“Een goede speler heeft altijd geluk” heeft de grote Capa ooit gezegd. Maar soms hebben de kleintjes iets meer geluk.

Gisteravond speelde ik aan bord 5 in de wedstrijd tegen Regiohakkers in de promotieklasse van de SGS. Mijn tegenstander Theo Dekker kwam al vroeg in de partij beter te staan en behield de voorsprong totdat het noodlot toesloeg.

Dit is de stelling na 32…f4.

In plaats van de zwarte pion tegen te houden met  33. Ta3 speelde wit gretig 33. Txc6?? om na mijn antwoord 33…f3 te ontdekken dat de toren op c6 zichzelf buitenspel heeft gezet en de zwarte pion niet te stoppen is. (Op Pe4 speelt nu zwart de dodelijke penning Lf5).

    I guess either white didn’t calculate your pawn walk to promotion or just forgot all about that pawn when he greedy snatched your c-pawn or he just forgot that you had Bf4 after Ne4. Was your opponent in time trouble?

      One of those things must have happened in his mind. He might also have over estimated his position and relaxed his mind because of that.
      He was not in time trouble at all.
      He had outplayed me in the opening and middlegame. Luckily for me it’s the last mistake that counts.

    It’s not always the last mistake that counts; a mistake does not always throw away the win. In this position it wasn’t the case. After 33.Ra3 Rf8 34.Rf3, I think black should go for 34… Kg6 to try Kg6-g5-h4 and Be6xh3-g4, although it’s not very likely to save the game.
    After 33.Rxc6 it’s even more clear. White clearly missed the pin, maybe because f5 was covered by the knight before the necessary 34.Ne4.
